In addition to this, the upper leather is pressed onto the sole through a mold injection heating process. In simpler terms, this means the upper and lower shoe is essentially sealed together and further reinforced with stitching into the midsole.

All of this together results in a boot that truly prevents water entry into the shoe.

Are All The Boots Equally Waterproof?

Timberland employs similar construction and design in all their waterproof boots. So in theory, they’re all equally waterproof. But in reality, some boots perform significantly better than the others.

The lace-up boots like the classic 6 inch and chukka boots are far more waterproof compared to the side zip ones. This is simply because of the design property. The side zip is a possible crack in the water-proof leather, allowing space for water to come in.

Similarly, high-rise boots are also more waterproof simply because they can withstand deeper water levels without letting any water inside.

How To Take Care Of Your Waterproof Boots

1. Let Them Air Dry

Once your shoes get wet, let them air-dry at room temperature instead of drying them near a direct heat source. Excess heat can damage the leather, causing your boots to age easily.

However, if you’re worried about them drying out of shape- insert a shoehorn into them while they’re wet.

2. Keep Them Clean

Muddy water might not get into your shoes but it will get into every crease of the outer shoe and will be a pain to clean if you let it build up.

To avoid having muddy shoes soon after you buy them, make sure to clean your shoes with a damp rag once a week and get off excess dried mud using a soft brush or old toothbrush.

3. Use A Protector Spray

Timberland sells its All Purpose Protector that protects boots against stains and also restores its water repellent properties.

Make sure to allow the boots to dry 24-48 hours after you have sprayed them before you wear them again.
