Are Timberland Boots Waterproof?

Thinking of spending some money on a new pair of waterproof Timberland boots? Read the full article to know if they’re truly waterproof!

While Timberland specializes in waterproof boots, not all Timberland boots are waterproof. To identify boots that are waterproof you will notice that the word “waterproof” is in the name. The description will also confirm if the specific style is waterproof or not.

Some styles of Timberland boots that aren’t waterproof in women’s boots would include Lana and Allington. For men’s Timberland boots, two of the styles that are not waterproof are Oakrock and Earthkeeper ranges for men boots. As I mentioned above, it’s best to check the product description to confirm if the boots are indeed waterproof.

If you’re ready to spend a couple of hundred bucks on a pair of Timberland boots and wondering if they are waterproof, let me just tell you- yes, most of them are. But keep in mind that not all Timberland boots are waterproof, here’s a table to tell you which of their boots are water-resistant!

I’ve provided a link to check availability.  I’ve found that sometimes I can’t always get the style I want at one place or another.  I’ve also noticed that the 2 online retailers that I have listed here will often have a better price than any other location.  Check them both…

What Makes Timberland Boots Waterproof?

Mr. Swats designed the original Timberland yellow boots for manual workers. So making them tough, durable, and truly waterproof was of paramount importance. The original yellow boots remain the prototype of waterproof boots for a good reason.

What’s good about Timberland waterproof boots is that they’re made with silicon-injected leather and not just a flimsy coating that will eventually come off with use. The silicon-injected leather not only makes it tougher to wear and tear, but also prevents water from coming into the shoe altogether.

To reinforce the waterproof properties, they have used extra silicone into the spaces where the leather is stitched together, making them sealed at the seams.

In addition to this, the upper leather is pressed onto the sole through a mold injection heating process. In simpler terms, this means the upper and lower shoe is essentially sealed together and further reinforced with stitching into the midsole.

All of this together results in a boot that truly prevents water entry into the shoe.

Are All The Boots Equally Waterproof?

Timberland employs similar construction and design in all their waterproof boots. So in theory, they’re all equally waterproof. But in reality, some boots perform significantly better than the others.

The lace-up boots like the classic 6 inch and chukka boots are far more waterproof compared to the side zip ones. This is simply because of the design property. The side zip is a possible crack in the water-proof leather, allowing space for water to come in.

Similarly, high-rise boots are also more waterproof simply because they can withstand deeper water levels without letting any water inside.

Additional design properties like faux fur and fabric ankle bands might not be waterproof and may ruin the overall water repellency of the shoe. Hence, it’s important to consider the overall design of the boot rather than just the waterproof tag.

How To Take Care Of Your Waterproof Boots

According to the people at Timberland, these boots can hold up pretty well for a long time in the worst of weather conditions. But, you gotta take care of them! Here are some tips to care for your waterproof boots:

1. Let Them Air Dry

Once your shoes get wet, let them air-dry at room temperature instead of drying them near a direct heat source. Excess heat can damage the leather, causing your boots to age easily.

However, if you’re worried about them drying out of shape- insert a shoehorn into them while they’re wet.

2. Keep Them Clean

Muddy water might not get into your shoes but it will get into every crease of the outer shoe and will be a pain to clean if you let it build up.

To avoid having muddy shoes soon after you buy them, make sure to clean your shoes with a damp rag once a week and get off excess dried mud using a soft brush or old toothbrush.

3. Use A Protector Spray

Timberland sells its All Purpose Protector that protects boots against stains and also restores its water repellent properties.

Make sure to allow the boots to dry 24-48 hours after you have sprayed them before you wear them again.

Summary

Most Timberland boots are waterproof because they employ science and technology to make them so. Be sure to take each boots’ design into consideration to know how truly waterproof they are.

As their tagline says never trade style for practicality again.
