Can UGG Slipper Insoles Be Replaced?

UGGs are coming back into style, and you may want to wear your slippers a bit more often. Unfortunately, wearing your slippers regularly may cause the insoles to get worn down. Yet, if this happens, do you have to buy new UGGs or can the insoles be replaced?

Most UGG slipper insoles can be easily replaced by removing the old insole and exchanging it for a readily available new sole. Yet, some designs don’t have replaceable insoles. As an alternative, UGG also offers cleaning services to restore dirty, worn UGGs.

In the rest of this article, I'll discuss the composition of UGGs to give you a better idea of where the insole is located and help you replace it. I'll also suggest some places you can find a new insole and provide some DIY sole repair and cleaning options that can save you a bit of money.

UGG slippers have an easily recognizable composition that will help you understand the insole replacement and cleaning process for your specific pair.

UGGs With Detachable Insoles

Almost all UGG slippers have detachable and easily exchangeable insoles. For example, these aren’t the only designs with detachable insoles, but they are some of the most popular:

You can check if your UGG slippers have detachable insoles like these options by going to the official UGG site for information on your slipper design. If your shoe has an insole, it’ll be listed under your slipper's product details. This can be found by locating your slipper design on the website, clicking on the product, and scrolling down until you see the "details" section.

Another way to find out is to check for the insole yourself by sticking your finger into your slipper and running it around the lining. If you feel a gap at the edge of the interior of your slipper, press your finger into it. If the sole lifts, this most likely means your shoe has a detachable insole that can be quickly and economically replaced or cleaned.

UGGs Without Detachable Insoles

If you've done both of the above checks and found that your slipper does not have a detachable insole, insole replacement may be a bit harder. To help you a bit, here are a few UGG slippers designs that do not have detachable insoles:

  • Fuzz Sugar Terry Cross Slides
  • UGG X Feng Chen Wang Slides
  • Fuzz Sugar Slide Sandals

Unfortunately, should you happen to have shoes without detachable insoles, you may not be able to replace them. However, you can invest in professional cleaning, instead, to make the linings in your shoes nice and fluffy again. UGG actually offers these cleanings through a program called UGG renew. Here's a link to take you to the shampoo process if you're interested.

UGG insole replacement is pretty straightforward. All you'll need is your UGG slipper and a new insole. I'll go into more detail on this process to clear up any confusion below.

To begin insole replacement, you'll want to:

  1. Reach into your slipper and fish out your old insole. It's your choice as to if you'd like to toss this insole or clean and keep it. I'll detail the cleaning process in this article's "DIY Options" section.
  2. Slide in your new insole front to back.

Here's a video from UGG detailing insole replacement:

Replacement is as simple as that! If your UGGs have replaceable insoles, this process should take you no longer than five minutes.

If you're curious as to where you can buy these insoles, you can purchase these directly from UGG in various sizes, and you can also find these insoles on Amazon, usually at the same price. (These come directly from UGG but are shipped through Amazon.) Here are some links to the women's UGG Women's Sheepskin Insole and the men's UGG Men's Sheepskin Insole

DIY Options

Depending on your issue, you may be able to repair your UGG slipper insoles at home. If your soles are not as fluffy as when you first bought them, there is actually a way of fluffing and washing them to make them feel good as new. Once again, there is also the option for a professional wash directly from UGG.

If you choose to opt for the DIY option, you can either purchase UGG Sheepskin Cleaner (available on Amazon.com) If you're okay with spending a bit more money, you can also buy a full UGG Care Kit on Amazon.com to make the cleaning process a bit easier.

Or, according to one YouTube user, you can use regular shampoo. I'd recommend going straight to UGG, but if you're willing to try the shampoo method, go for it! To see this process, here's a link to a UGG cleaning video on YouTube:

According to UGG, no matter what cleaner you choose, you’ll need to follow a few simple steps, making sure you hand wash only.

  1. Moisten your insole with cold water.
  2. Apply a bit of cleaner to a sponge, gently scrubbing the insole clean.
  3. Rinse off your cleaned insole in cool water.
  4. Leave your insole to dry naturally without applying heat or leaving your insole in the sun.
  5. Brush the sheepskin insole

Just like that, you're done! Cleaning your UGG insoles is a great option, but then again, buying new ones is still an excellent and economical choice if your soles are worn out.

In Conclusion

Oftentimes, UGG insoles can be very easily replaced. Almost all UGG slipper models have detachable insoles that can simply be removed and cleaned or changed. Options from UGG that do not have separable insoles can be cleaned professionally by UGG or at home using shampoo or UGG Sheepskin Cleaner. As soon as you know it, your UGGs will be as good as new!
